Zamalek defender Mahmoud Fathalla got back in training after partly recuperating from the head injury he sustained last week.

The 28-year-old collided with Asyut Petroleum defender Masinga Vintal in the air to suffer a severe wound to his head in Thursday's league game, which Zamalek won 4-1.

Fathallah, who was bleeding horrifically, was stretchered off and hospitalized, making way for Amr Adel few minutes before the interval. The wound needed 19 stitches.

The Egypt international most probably won't participate in Zamalek's first Egyptian Cup match against Fayoum, but he should be available afterwards.

"Fathallah is not likely to play against Fayoum," Mostafa Al-Monayeri told FilGoal.com. "But we aim to make him fit ahead of our (possible) game against Ahli.

"The wound is still healing up and we don't want to give him the all-clear before he reaches full recovery."

Zamalek and Ahli will set up a Cairo derby should they qualify for the Egyptian Cup round of 16.

The Red Devils take on lower division side Nabaroh in the round of 32.
