Egypt's attacking midfielder Geddo gave Ittihad a three-goal advantage, before Mahmoud Samir bagged a brace.
Mahmoud Shaker completed half a dozen of goals for Ittihad before lowly Tanta scored the consolation goal.
Ittihad will face Ismaili, who outclassed Gaish 4-0 on the same day, in the Egyptian Cup quarter finals on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Harras Hodoud qualified for the quarter finals upon recording a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ragaa.
Ahmed Eid put Hodoud in front one minute from the hour mark before Ahmed Mekki ensured Hodoud's lead a couple of minutes later.
Abdul-Rahman Mosaad scored Ragaa's only goal 20 minutes from time and had some chances to equalize but to no avail.
Hodoud will face Arab Contractors, who beat Massri 3-2 on Tuesday too, in the cup quarter finals.
