Petrojet eased their woes by reaching the Egyptian Cup quarter finals after beating second-division side Canal Mooring & Lights 2-0 on Wednesday.

Ghanaian attacking midfielder Cofie Bekoe opened the scoring after seven minutes with an easy tap in at the far post after the keeper misjudged a cross.

Canal Mooring & Lights defender Alaa Al-Ghoul scored a bizarre own goal in the 57th minute to kill off his side's hopes.

He tried to chest a cross into the keeper's hands but miscommunication resulted in the ball finding the net.

Canal Mooring & Lights missed out on the chance of becoming the only lower-division team to appear in the quarter finals this season.

Petrojet finally have something to cheer about after enduring a difficult period of late.

They finished fourth in the league table after Ismaili leapfrogged them into third spot on the final day of the season and exited the African Confederation Cup at the hands of Tunisia's Sfaxien in the preliminary round.

They will have to pass a stern test if they are to book a semi-final berth in the Egyptian Cup. They will face the winners of Wednesday's late clash between Cairo giants Ahli and Zamalek.

Petrojet coach Mokhtar Mokhtar, who led them to Premier League promotion in 2006, is likely to leave the club after the end of the cup.

Gaish coach Farouk Gaafar, whose team were eliminated from the cup after suffering an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Ismaili on Tuesday, is likely to replace him.
