Milla took a swipe at Eto'o on Friday, saying that he fails to reproduce his club form on the country level.
"For me, for the moment, Samuel still hasn't brought anything to our national team," the 58-year-old, who helped Cameroon reach the 1990 World Cup quarter finals, said.
"The people of Cameroon expect a lot of him at this World Cup, that he shows his true face as he did at Barcelona or as he just did at Inter Milan."
Eto'o joined Inter from Spanish giants Barcelona, where he enjoyed a highly-successful five-year spell, last summer and helped the Italian club win an unprecedented treble.
He is a key member of the Cameroon side who will take part in the June 11- July 11 World Cup finals in South Africa.
"I'm the best goal-scorer in the history of the African Cup," Eto'o, who scored 18 goals in seven Nations Cups, said in his response to Milla's accusations.
"I've won the African Cup, I've won an Olympic gold medal. That says everything. Look at how many Champions Leagues I have … Look.
"Everything God gives me, I take and he's given enormously during my career.
"A lot more than to some others and they must respect that and shut up, really shut up, because playing a quarter-final of the World Cup is not winning the World Cup."
Cameroon open their World Cup campaign against Japan on June 14. They will also face Holland and Denmark in Group E.
