Brazil striker Luis Fabiano does not think that Argentina wizard Lionel Messi will be a serious contender for the World Cup top scorer award.

Messi, who won the 2009 World Player of the Year award, produced some brilliant displays this season to help Barcelona retain their Primera Liga title.

He finished as the league's top scorer with 34 goals, seven ahead of Real Madrid's Gonzalo Huguain.

"My favourites for the World Cup golden boot are Wayne Rooney and David Villa," Fabiano was quoted as saying by Italian media.

"I worry less about Messi. He is ruthless with Barcelona, but he becomes more timid with Argentina.

"But don't forget Luis Fabiano in your predictions."

Sevilla marksman Fabiano, who is linked with a summer move to AC Milan, is set to spearhead Brazil's attack during the World Cup.

The football's most prestigious event will begin on June 11.
