Ivory Coast maintain their hopes of having star man Didier Drogba fit for the World Cup after he had surgery on his broken arm on Saturday.

The Ivorian football federation said in a statement that the Elephants skipper had a successful operation, with doctors expecting a 'speedy recovery'.

Drogba broke his arm in Friday's warm-up match with Japan and doubts have been raised over his fitness for the South Africa finals.

The Ivorians face a stern challenge this summer as they compete in Group G along with Brazil, Portugal and North Korea.
