Petrojet have announced the appointment of Helmi Toulan as head coach starting next season, few days after Farouk Gaafar backtracked on his decision to take charge of the petroleum side.

Former Petrojet coach Mokhtar Mokhtar stepped down from his role to be hired by Masri after the Egyptian Cup.

Gaish boss Gaafar came close to succeeding him but eventually decided to stay put.

Toulan signed a one-year contract with Petrojet on Tuesday to put an end to speculations over the identity of the club's new manager.

Toulan has been without a job since leaving Telecom Egypt in March 2009 after a string of poor results.

He also had spells with Harras Hodoud and Masri but did not make a major impact with either club.

Last November, Toulan was about to reach an agreement with Ahli Benghazi but the Libyan outfit backed out of the deal due to his 'unreasonable conditions'.
