Algeria skipper Antar Yehia sustained an injury to his left ankle in training on Friday, which cast doubts over his availability for the Desert Foxes' World Cup opener against Slovenia.

The Bochum defender, who wore Algeria's armband after Yazid Mansouri was omitted from the squad, was injured in an aerial challenge, according to Al-Arabia TV.

It's yet to be announced whether Yehia will be fit to play in Sunday's game or not as the full extent of his problem is still unknown.

Algeria lie in Group C alongside England, USA and Slovenia in the World Cup, which got underway on June 11th.
