Mexico captain Rafael Marquez said he wasn't comfortable playing with the new World Cup ball despite scoring in the opener.

Mexico were one down against hosts South Africa but the Barcelona man netted the equalizer from close range.

"It's a little uncomfortable to play with this ball because it moves a lot," the 31-year-old midfielder told El Mundo Deportivo.

"For a player it is difficult to calculate the touch because it has a lot of movement."

Marquez played as a holding midfielder instead of his normal role in the heart of the back four.

But he said he enjoyed playing in an advanced role with the national team.

"I know my position very well. I feel comfortable playing in the pivot," he said.

Mexico next play France, who were held to a goalless draw by Uruguay in the other Group A game on Friday.
