Ivory Coast have received a huge boost with news that Didier Drogba is allowed to play against Portugal with a protective cast in his fractured arm.

The Chelsea hitman has been struggling to be fit for the Elephants' World Cup opener after breaking his right arm in a warm-up game with Japan.

But he is now given the green light to feature against Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.

"The referee, Jorge Larrionda from Uruguay has okayed the cast which he will use to play," FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot told a news briefing on Tuesday.

"The cast has also been seen by the Portuguese delegation at yesterday's match coordination meeting."
