Following some fine passing, Sestak crossed into the box for Vittek, who notched in a wonderfully-placed header past the New Zealand keeper.
Television replays however proved that the Slovakia forward was in an offside position.
The Slovaks played on the counter after scoring the opener, and were eventually punished for some sloppy defending in the final 30 seconds of injury time.
