A scrappy first-half goal claimed by Jean Beausejour lifted the Chileans, who wasted a more comprehensive victory over the North American minnows.
It was one-way traffic since the first minute as Chile caused the Hondurans all sorts of problems through electric winger Alexis Sanchez.
But it was until the 34th minute when the deadlock was broken, thanks to a fortunate goal from Beausejour.
Mauricio Isla's low cross beat goalkeeper Noel Valladares but defender Sergio Mendoza cleared off the line, only for the ball to hit the back of Beausejour into the net.
After the break, Chile maintained their domination and wasted a host of chances to double their slender lead, mostly due to the competence of Valladares.
In the 64th minute, the Honduras guardian produced the save of the competition so far, superbly denying Waldo Ponce from point-blank range.
