Aston Villa and England striker Emile Heskey has announced his retirement from international football on Thursday.

"I have enjoyed every moment of my England career and worn the shirt with pride every time I have been fortunate enough to have been selected," the 32-year-old said in a statement.

"I would like to thank every manager I have played under, everyone at the FA and the fans for all their support over the years.

"I wish the management team and the playing squad all the best for the future."

Heskey has been a regular for England during the past decade, even though his goalscoring record was anything but impressive.

The towering forward, who was part of England's poor World Cup campaign, scored seven goals in 62 caps for his country.
