The Egypt striker is on the verge of completing his move to the Belgian side after passing a medical on Thursday and looks set for the new voyage.
His first European tenure comes after a period of prolonged negotiations though, where Ahli made several attempts to keep their prolific goalscorer with a new contract offer.
But the 27-year-old opted for the new challenge, calling time on a glittering career in Cairo.
"I spent 14 fabulous years in this club. I am the son of Ahli, I was like the child of the fans, so when I announced I was leaving, they couldn’t believe it," Meteb said after arriving in Belgium.
"But my decision was made and I assure you that I approach this challenge with great motivation.
"In Egypt, I won everything, victory is always my objective. So I hope to achieve major successes with Standard in the league and in Europe as well."
Hassan advice
Meteb revealed that, before moving to Belgium, he sought the advice of Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan, who enjoyed a dazzling spell with Anderlecht before joining Ahli in 2008.
"I even spent the evening with him the other day. Hassan is like an elder brother to me," added Meteb.
"He told me that in Belgium, Anderlecht and Standard are the biggest two clubs, but he stressed that Standard have the most formidable fans in the country."
The new season in Belgium starts by the end of July as Standard open their campaign at home against Zulte Waregem on the 30th.
