Confirming the comments of the player's agent, Ahli said they had agreed an EGP 4.75million deal with Ismaili, before deleting the story from their official site.
Moreover, Ismaili chairman Nasr Aboul-Hassan revealed to FilGoal.com the reason behind the dramatic change.
"The deal will not go through and Moatasem is staying with us," Aboul-Hassan said.
"There was a final voting on the transfer and the board unanimously rejected Salem's departure to Ahli."
It was thought that the Ismaili board were pondering Salem's sale only because they needed the fees of the transfer to fund a couple of signings before the deadline on Thursday.
However, the other deals, which include Moroccan striker Abdessalam Benjelloun, turned out to be affordable for the Dervishes.
Meanwhile, Salem's reaction is expected to be anything but normal as the 29-year-old was desperate to join the six-time African champions.
