Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will not be fit before September, manager Alex Ferguson has confirmed.
The England center-half has been ruled out of the World Cup with a knee ligament problem and now his layoff period is extended.
"Rio should be six weeks, I think. It was a ligament injury after all," said Ferguson.
Ferdinand, who has been wretched by a series of injuries during the past two seasons, will miss England's friendly with Hungary next month.
