Zamalek's attacking midfielder Hussein Yasser has been called up to Qatar squad for the first time in two years.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of favor with Qatar coach Bruno Metsu since joining Ahli in the summer of 2008.

His lack of playing time at the Egyptian champions cost him a place in Qatar's squad but he was given a new lease of life after joining their arch rivals Zamalek last January.

He played a key role in helping Zamalek finish runners up to Ahli in the Premier League with a string of fine displays.

Metsu was present at Cairo Stadium to watch Yasser in action during the Cairo derby between Ahli and Zamalek in April.

He produced a superb display and scored as both sides shared spoils in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

He could now play with Qatar in their friendly game against Bosnia in Sarajevo on August 11 but Zamalek are still reluctant to let him join up with his national team.

"Coach Hossam Hassan will decide whether Yasser can travel to Bosnia or not," Zamalek said in their daily newsletter on Friday.

"He will take into consideration the best interests of the team when he makes his decision in the next few days."
