Wadi Degla coach Walter Meeuws reveled in his side's first Egyptian Premier League victory that came in an emphatic fashion at the expense of Arab Contractors.

One-time Egyptian champions Contractors suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat by the league debutants, who are aiming high after producing a fine display in Thursday's game.

"It's a historic victory," Degla's Belgian coach Meeuws told the post-match news conference.

"The team earned Premier League promotion four years after the club was founded and today it scored four goals to claim a superb victory in its first top-flight game.

"This form should encourage us to work harder in the coming period."

Goals from Ashour Al-Taqui, Syrian striker Abdul-Fattah Agha, Ahmed Mostafa and Ghanaian frontman Wisdom Agblexo gave Wadi Degla all three points in their maiden league appearance.

"I told my players that if we relied on counter attacks we would win," Meeuws added.

"We scored four goals out of five clear-cut chances, and this was a big success for us."
