Ahmed Hassan will only consider staying with Ahli if he has a vital role to play with the team this season.

The Egypt skipper, who runs out of contract by next summer, will not be hasty making a decision in the near future as he implied he could be leaving the Reds.

"I am not at all angry that no one talked to me about a new contract, because I usually prefer to make this decision at the end of the season," Hassan told FilGoal.com.

"My decision will be based on my role with the team. If I felt I am important to the team, like I was in the past two years, then I will stay.

"But if my role was just marginal, I will leave because I don't like to be an ordinary player in the team."

Hassan's future with Ahli came under scrutiny last season, with manager Hossam Al-Badri insisting to substitute him in almost every game.

The speculation escalated in June when the midfield veteran said he wants a new challenge, amid serious interest from Belgian side Lierse.

But the Egyptian champions held finally on to the 35-year-old, who announced he is not considering retirement in the meantime.
