Nicolas Anelka reacted sarcastically after seeing his international career with France virtually end with an 18-match ban.

The Chelsea striker was punished by the French FA for his infamous outburst against former manager Raymond Domenech during the World Cup.

His rant was followed by a strike from the France players who protested against sending him home ahead of the final group game with South Africa.

“These people are real clowns … I’m dying of laughter," Anelka, 31, said in an interview with Soir newspaper.

"Who said I wanted to play again in blue? For me, after the World Cup in South Africa, the French team is now history."
