Barcelona wizard Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick to help the Catalans down Sevilla 4-0 and claim the Spanish Super Cup for the second time under Pep Guardiola, ninth in history.

Sevilla, who had beaten Barca 3-1 in the first leg, seemed to be completely helpless while facing a star-studded Barcelona side at Nou Camp.

The Spanish champions secured their first title this season on a 5-3 aggregate win.

Barcelona's super signing David Villa made his competitive debut when he was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Abdoulay Konko gifted Barcelona the lead in the 13th minute with an own goal, when a Pedro Rodriguez cross deflected off him and into the net.

The Argentina star doubled his side's lead six minutes from the half-hour mark when he latched onto a Xavi Hernandez through to go one-on-one with the keeper and slot home.

Messi ensured Barcelona's superiority on the stroke of half-time when he made the most of Daniel Alves' deft pass and hit the roof of the net from close range.

Substitute Villa set up the last goal as he sent a through to Andres Iniesta, whose cutback enabled Messi to complete a treble in the last minute.
