The German side will also face Ukrainian club Karpaty Lviv in Group J after the draw was made in Monaco on Friday.
Dortmund reached the group stage after completing an easy 5-0 aggregate win over Qarabagh of Azerbaijan on Thursday.
Egyptian forward Zidan missed the game as he is still nursing a serious knee injury he picked up last April. He is expected to return to action in October.
Dortmund have won the old European Cup Winners' Cup in 1966 and the Champions League, Europe's premier club competition, in 1997.
Europa League holders Atletico Madrid were grouped with Germany's Bayer Leverkusen, Norway's Rosenborg BK and Aris Thessaloniki of Greece.
English big-spending club Manchester City and ailing giant Juventus were paired in Group A along with Austria's Salzburg and Polish side Lech Poznan.
Liverpool, who were a regular member of the Champions League but had to play in the less glamorous Europa League after finishing seventh in the English Premier League last season, will face Italy's Napoli and Romania's Steaua Bucharest in Group K.
The groups' winners and runners-up will qualify for the competition's round of 32, where they will be joined by the eight teams who finish third in the Champions League groups.
