Egypt's technical staff members were supposed to attend a press briefing before Friday's training session but declined to show up.
The journalists present at Cairo Stadium's training pitch were infuriated but opted to stay put until the end of training, hoping that they could have the chance to speak to head coach Hassan Shehata afterwards.
However, assistant coach Shawki Gharib, skipper Ahmed Hassan and goalkeeper Essam Al-Hadari stepped in instead as reporters, photographers and camera crews jostled for positions.
The trio said few words before rushing to the tunnel, sparking resentment from the media personnel.
The media representatives invaded the pitch in a chaotic scene in desperate attempts to hold any interviews with Egypt players.
Shehata ordered the players to leave the pitch to further infuriate the attendees.
African champions Egypt will host Sierra Leone at Cairo Stadium in their opening Group G game of the Nations Cup qualifiers.
The group also includes South Africa and Niger.
