Ahli are contemplating making a move for Harras Hodoud striker Ahmed Mekki, the club's football director Hadi Khashaba said on Thursday.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new striker as they suffer from the lack of reliable options upfront.

They have already completed the signing of Emad Meteb, who rejoined the club after terminating his deal with Belgian side Standard Liege. He will be eligible to play when the transfer window re-opens in January.

However, Ahli, who made a stuttering start to their Egyptian Premier League campaign but managed to qualify for the Champions League semis, are still seeking to add another striker to their ranks.

They recently identified Iraqi Mostafa Karim, Sierra Leone's Mohamed Bangoura and Given Singuluma of Zambia as their targets for January.

Hodoud's in-form forward Mekki could also be included in their wish-list, Khashaba said.

"The technical staff is monitoring his progress. We are considering making a bid for him," he told FilGoal.com.

"We are yet to make an official approach to him."

Mekki has scored two goals for Alexandria-based club Hodoud in their first three league games.

His form prompted Egypt coach Hassan Shehata to name him in the Pharaohs' squad for the opening game of their 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone earlier this month.

He started the game to make his Egypt debut but was replaced in the second half in the disappointing 1-1 draw at Cairo Stadium.
