Ahmed Elmohamady's Sunderland were ousted from the Carling Cup third round after being condemned to a 2-1 loss by West Ham United at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

As usual, Egypt wide man Elmohamady, who joined the Black Cats on loan from ENPPI in the summer, was deployed as a right winger and played the whole 90 minutes of the match.

Once again, he put in a combative performance and whipped in a number of crosses throughout the game, but to no avail.

Frederic Piquionne fired West Ham ahead five minutes past the half-hour mark before Asamoah Gyan brought the score level four minutes from the interval.

Victor Obinna hit the winner for the visitors on 59 minutes.
