MCDR's skillful playmaker Ayman Hefni unsettled Zamalek's defense to the extent that the Cairo club decided to table a bid for him when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Hefni had a great chance, which he eagerly anticipated, to showcase his talent when promoted MCDR played against heavyweights Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League last Saturday.

He made the most of it by producing an eye-catching display although his side lost 4-3 in a thrilling game.

"We will make an official offer to sign Hefni during the coming few days," a Zamalek official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FilGoal.com.

"Coach Hossam Hassan gave the board the green light to pursue its interest in the player."

The 24-year-old opened the scoring against Zamalek after 14 minutes when he cut inside his marker and hit a low shot which bounced in front of keeper Essam Al-Hadari before flying into the net.

He was a constant menace to the White Knights' backline although he appeared jaded in the latter stages of the game.

Hefni burst onto the scene when his superb bicycle kick earned MCDR a 1-1 draw at Ismaili last month. He said he hoped to earn an Egypt call up in the near future.

He could face stiff competition to break into Zamalek's starting line up if he moved to the club in January.

Zamalek boast several attacking midfielders, including regular duo Shikabala and Hussein Yasser.
