Sierra Leone held Group G leaders South Africa to a goalless draw at home in the Nations Cup qualifying stage, to keep Egypt within three points of the Bafana Bafana.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pharaohs succumbed to a 1-0 away loss to Niger and now are languishing at the bottom of the group with a sole point.

The draw in Sierra Leone came in Egypt's best interest as it made their aim of coming from behind relatively easier.

Defending champions Egypt will keep pace with South Africa on top of the group should they beat them in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The leaders of each group will qualify for the biennial competition as well as the best two second-placed teams.

The runners-up of Group K, which includes five teams, will go through as well.
