Out-of-sorts Liverpool got their Premier League winless streak extended to five matches upon losing 2-0 at Everton on Sunday.

Two strikes from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta on 34 and 50 minutes respectively gave the home side a vital victory.

Liverpool, who seem to be enduring one of their worst-ever league campaigns, are now in penultimate place with six points. Everton moved to 11th spot on nine.

Roy Hodgson has been appointed as the Reds manager since July 2010 following the departure of Rafael Benitez, but hasn't been able to keep the team on an even keel so far.

Liverpool have just been acquired by US company New England Sports Ventures, the owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

The acquisition is widely expected to turnaround the beleaguered club's fortunes in the not-too-distant future.
