Lawmakers in Serbia have amended the criminal law in an attempt to deter hooligan violence.

A masked football fanatic, Ivan Bogdanov, caused a Euro 2012 qualifier between Serbia and Italy to be abandoned after wreaking havoc in the stands.

Now there are widespread fears of violent riots at upcoming matches in Serbia.

The parliament voted in favor of extending detention for those participating in riots from eight to 30 days.
