Petrojet manager Helmi Toulan believes that 'sympathy' with Ahli cost his team the match points against the league holders on Wednesday.

Petrojet's six-match unbeaten run was ended by the Reds in Suez, thanks to a first-half volley by Geddo.

But Toulan, whose side dominated the second half in Suez, insists that Ahli's recent Champions League exit played a part in the scoreline.

"Everyone is sympathizing with Ahli after their Champions League exit," said the former Zamalek manager.

"Ahli are a huge club and I don’t think they are in need of favors from the referee.

"I knew from the beginning he will be against us, but I didn’t expect it to be in that extravagant way. We had a goal wrongly disallowed and a clear penalty appeal."

An 83rd minute goal by defender Mahmoud Samna was a talking point after the game as television replays showed he was offside.
