The 20th Gulf Cup will go on as scheduled on the 22nd of November despite reported security concerns, confirmed Yemen Sports Minister Hamoud Abbad.

Widespread reports this week suggested that the Supreme Security Committee reviewing venues in Aden and Abyan recommended the postponement of the tournament.

However, Abbad insists that the committee have no authority to make such a recommendation.

"We have no intention to postpone the tournament and those reports are not true," Abbad said.

"The security committee has no right to make this recommendation. We were the ones who asked for their supervision in the first place."

Security threats are believed to be coming from the Southern Movement as well as Yemeni Al-Qaeda.

Zamalek's Qatari star Hussein Yasser is expected to join his national team this month, much to the discomfort of the Cairo club.

Should he go to the regional competition, Yasser will miss the Cairo derby against former club Ahli on November 26th.
