Former Zamalek marksman Ashraf gave Gouna the lead only after three minutes but Shehab Ahmed put the visitors back on level terms with a second-half goal to end the game in a 1-1 stalemate.
Ahli were struggling for fluency throughout the 90 minutes, allowing the coastal side the control the match most of the time.
"We played a very good game and Ahli didn't even deserve to draw with us," Ashraf, who was taken off in the second half, stated after the match.
Gouna are now in 11th place on 10 points while defending champions Ahli are keeping pace with their arch-rivals Zamalek on top of the table with 18.
The Red Devils have one more game in hand.
