Ajax striker Mido was left out of the Dutch giants' squad for their UEFA Champions League match with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The towering hitman has only made four substitute appearances since rejoining the Amsterdam side in the summer from English second-division club Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

He opened his account in Ajax's 3-0 Dutch Cup victory over Veendam earlier this month, connecting with a pinpoint cross from the left to power a header home.

Mido's first appearance with the Dutch giants was delayed for around two months due to worries over his weight and fitness but he believes that he began to hit his stride.

The 27-year-old, who built his name at Ajax when he was a teenager, said after returning to the club that he hopes to feature in the Champions League.
