Striker Mohamed Fadl handed Ahli a major boost after recovering from a knee injury he picked up last month faster than expected.

The former Ismaili man suffered the complaint during Ahli's 1-0 loss to Tunisia's Esperance that eliminated them from the African Champions League at the semi-final stage.

The Red Devils could not find a reliable frontman as they were held to a 1-1 draw at lowly Gouna before suffering a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Ismaili, a defeat that sealed the fate of coach Hossam Al-Badri.

"Fadl has begun to participate in the first team's training today after concluding his rehabilitation program," Ahli said on their official website on Friday.

The 30-year-old did not really impress this season but was deemed more useful than Liberian Francis Doe, Lebanese Mohamed Ghaddar, youngster Mohamed Talaat and out-of-favor striker Osama Hosni.

He might make his comeback when Ahli face promoted Smouha, who are ecstatic after registering their first Egyptian Premier League win at the expense of Masri on Friday, next week.

Fadl, who joined Ahli in the summer of 2009, has scored three goals in all competitions so far this season.

The Egyptian champions will be further boosted in January when Emad Meteb, who backed down on an agreement with Belgian's Standard Liege to return to his boyhood club, becomes eligible to play.
