Mohamed Zidan made his long-awaited Borussia Dortmund comeback in their 3-0 victory over Ukraine's Karpaty Lviv in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Egyptian forward started on the bench before being introduced seven minutes past the hour mark instead of Japanese attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa.

It was his first match for the German outfit since tearing his cruciate ligament in a Bundesliga game last April.

Zidan also played in Egypt's 3-0 victory over Australia in a friendly game last month.

The 28-year-old went close to scoring with a low drive in the second half but Lviv keeper blocked his effort.

Kagawa, Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski were on the scoresheet to give Dortmund, who are on top of the Bundesliga after making an impressive start to the season, a vital win.

Paris Saint-Germain top Group J with 11 points from five games and have already secured their place in the last 32.

Spain's Sevilla lie second on nine points, just one ahead of Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund.

Dortmund need to beat Sevilla away from home in two weeks' time to advance to the knockout phase.
