De Boer was appointed interim Ajax boss on Tuesday following the resignation of Martin Jol, who used to prefer a 4-4-2, mainly relying on Mounir El Hamdaoui and Luis Suarez upfront.
Egyptian forward Mido is usually a backup for the duo, but could be given a wider role with De Boer’s new formation.
"When it comes to playing football, movement on the field and attacking, I am close to Johan Cruyff's philosophy, "the former Holland defender said ahead of the Champions League match at AC Milan.
"I like the 4-3-3 formation; I know you need the right players for that, but if you want to find them, then you will."
Mido, who scored three times in his last three appearances in all competitions, used to play as a winger during his first Ajax spell 10 years ago.
