Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan could be fit in time for the crucial 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in South Africa in March.

The Ahli veteran has been out of action since damaging the cruciate ligament last September in a qualifying game against Sierra Leone, which marked his 175th cap for Egypt.

“I could be fit to play matches in one-and-a-half month,” Hassan told Ahli’s website.

Hassan, 35, is only three games away from matching Saudi Arabia’s Mohamed Al-Daeyea’s record of 178 international caps.

The former Anderlecht ace has been a key figure in Egypt’s back-to-back CAN titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010, winning the best player award twice.
