Shehata was obviously looking to field the skillful duo alongside each other in Egypt’s recent Nile Basin triumph, with Ahli veteran Abou-Treika admittedly trying to help Shikabala blend in with the team.
“We are trying to create a state of harmony between Abou-Treika and Shikabala on the pitch,” Egypt assistant coach Gharib said.
“We intend to form a new weapon for the team using Shikabala’s pace and Abou-Treika’s experience.
“The fans are used to seeing Shikabala receive the ball and dribble past defenders without paying much attention to his defensive duties, but this has to change with the national team.
“Shehata instructs Shikabala to get back and help his teammates in defense by pressing on the opposition because he is younger that Abou-Treika to perform such duties.”
Shikabala, a virtuoso performer for Egyptian league leaders Zamalek, has yet to make the same impact with Egypt as he is still looking for his first competitive goal on the international stage.
