Egyptian FA chairman Samir Zaher insisted there is no intention to cancel the domestic league this season, but conceded that all clubs must agree on resuming matches after the recent unrest.

The second half of the season was postponed indefinitely in the wake of the social uprising that took place last month, calling off all sports activities in Egypt to date.

“We have no intention to call the season off right now. It would result in severe losses for the FA and for many clubs as well,” Zaher told CNN Arabic.

“It would be disastrous for those clubs who have already agreed sponsorship deals.

“But according to a FIFA notification, all clubs must agree on resuming the season in such a condition.

“And above that, security must be ensured during matches so that supporters are fully safe.”

FilGoal.com has learnt that Ismaili made a proposal to the FA to resume matches behind closed doors, stressing that the long break is ‘negative’ for many clubs.
