Zamalek are set to coast to the CAF Champions League round of 32 when they entertain Kenyan minnows Ulinzi Stars in an eagerly-anticipated match for reasons other than football.

The Whites are virtually through to the next round, having claimed a 4-0 first-leg victory in Nairobi last month.

The comprehensive win curiously came on the 25th of January; the day that marked Egypt’s monumental revolution after which all sports activities in the country were put on hold.

Sunday’s game will be vital for the restart of the exceptional season though, with the beleaguered security forces put under test at the Military Academy Stadium.

“The Zamalek-Ulinzi game will be very important. It is a genuine rehearsal for the upcoming period of the season,” said Egyptian FA president Samir Zaher.

Zaher’s board has yet to set a date for the restart of the Egyptian Premier League, but a decision is likely to be made in the wake of Sunday’s game.

In the same manner, Zamalek football director Ibrahim Hassan indicated that the importance of the match will come from the stands rather than the pitch.

“I think the crowd attendance at the Ulinzi game could be the gate towards having the domestic league back in action,” he said.
