Ahli football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz denied that star midfielder Mohamed Barakat is suffering from a chronic knee problem.

The veteran winger sustained another knee injury this weekend, which raised fears of a chronic problem threatening his future.

“This is not true. Barakat had some pain in his kneecap and he is set to travel with the team to Saudi Arabia for the friendly game against Qadsia,” Abdul-Hafiz said.

Barakat, who missed several league matches this season due to a knee problem, was forced to sit out Sunday’s friendly win over MCDR.

It is believed that the 34-year-old retired from international football due to his troublesome knee.

Meanwhile, Abdul-Hafiz revealed that talks will begin soon with duo Ahmed Hassan and Osama Hosni over new contracts with the club.

Hassan and Hosni both run out of contracts by the end of the current season.
