The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed that the Egyptian Premier League will be resumed on April 13.

All sports competitions were indefinitely halted in Egypt after demonstrations broke out and turned into a full-scale revolt that overthrew former president Hosni Mubarak last month.

A step towards the resumption of the league was taken right after security became relatively maintained amid a strong police presence, unlike in the past weeks.

National Sports Council president Hassan Sakr met with the representatives of the top-flight sides few days ago, before the Egyptian FA announced the date of the league recommencement.

According to FA spokesman Azmi Megahed, the decision to continue the competition was made after the ruling military council had given the governing body the thumbs up.

The second division will also be resumed while the fate of the lower ones is not entirely known.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Cup has been canceled.
