The 38-year-old netted his milestone goal in style as he helped Sao Paolo beat their arch-rivals 2-1; the latter’s first victory since 2007.

"It was beautiful," said Rogerio, who has 17 caps for Brazil and was part of the Selecao’s 2002 and 2006 World Cup squads.

"As a goalkeeper you don't enter the match thinking about scoring a goal, but it happened just as I wanted: with a free kick, deciding an important match.

"For me, it doesn't matter that it was against Corinthians, but for the fans it must have been important."

During his one-club career, Rogerio hit 56 freekcisk as the rest of his goals came from the spot.
