With Zamalek losing on aggregate and the match close to an end, hundreds of angry fans invaded the pitch in an attempt to assault Algerian referee Mohamed Bichari and the visiting players.
The match was eventually called off as the FA apologized for the home supporters’ act.
“We present an apology to the Tunisian people, the association, the board and supporters of Club Africain for the shameful events that took place in the match,” a statement on the Egyptian FA’s website read.
“The FA is stressing on the strong relationship with our brothers in Tunisia and the rapport that produced the honorable revolutions in both countries.
“Such a relationship is much deeper than any odd incident from an irresponsible group.”
In the same manner, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior issued a statement about the events, apologizing to the Tunisian people and government in the process.
The statement indicated that the human damages caused by the events - including injuries to players, fans and stewards - were minor.
Meanwhile, FilGoal.com has learnt that FA chairman Samir Zaher and Supreme Council of Sports chief Hassan Sakr failed to come to a decision regarding the resumption of the league season.
The Egyptian Premier League was supposed to be resumed in ten days, but Saturday's events prompted the FA to reconsider it's options.
The 2010-2011 season restart faces further scrutiny after Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf said he is seriously considering calling off the competition after Saturday's scenes.
