Egypt U20s opened their African Youth Championship campaign with a 2-0 victory over outsiders Lesotho on Sunday.

Ismaili defender Ahmed Hegazi headed Egypt into a 48th minute lead, before Arab Contractors starlet Mohamed Salah won a penalty and converted it successfully on 66 minutes.

In the other group match, Mali were helped by a brace from Paris St. Germain youngster Kalifa Coulibaly to thrash hosts South Africa 4-2.

The Malians lead Group A on goal difference before facing Egypt in a crucial game on Wednesday.
