The Ahli star has been struggling with a calf injury lately but is expected to be fit for this week’s league encounter at Harras Hodoud. However, he does not seem to feature in Shehata’s plans for the crucial game.
“He is not playing with Ahli because of injury, that’s why I will not choose him,” Shehata told Tahrir TV.
Shehata, who has been heavily relying on the services of Abou-Treika in recent years, admitted that the 32-year-old form has declined, but ruled out the age factor.
“Abou-Treika’s input has been less than expected, but that’s normal. You have to pardon him, he has been facing extraordinary pressure.
“His name is being mentioned in any conversation between two citizens or even in entertainment programs!
“I don’t think his age is a problem. There are players in the national team who are older than Abou-Treika but are still playing well.”
