A couple of Ahli fans were released by Kuwaiti police after being detained for lifting a banner with the flags of Arab nations during the recent friendly match with Salmiya, the Cairo club’s official site said.

The duo was caught lifting a banner with the flags of recently-revolting Arab nations during the Egyptian champions’ 1-0 win; a gesture which was not welcomed by the Kuwaiti authorities

The problem was eventually handled by Ahli board member and Al-Khorafi Group chairman in Egypt Ibrahim Saleh, who was the head of the club delegation in Kuwait.

According to the club’s site, Saleh raised the matter to Kuwaiti Prime Minister Nasser Al-Sabah as his efforts to convince the Gulf nation’s authorities that the message was misunderstood turned successful.
