The referee’s apology vindicates Zamalek’s request for a rematch with MCDR, according to football director Ibrahim Hassan.

Zamalek controversially lost the game 1-0 as referee Yasser Mahmoud admitted he should have given a penalty to the Whites and allowed a Mohamed Abdul-Shafi goal before half time.

The league leaders seem determined for a rematch after the comments of Mahmoud, who also announced his retirement on Sunday.

“The confession of Yasser Mahmoud proves we made the right move requesting a rematch,” Hassan told FilGoal.com.

“He admitted his two errors and this gives us the right to protest.”

Withdrawal

Meanwhile, Zamalek chairman Galal Ibrahim ruled out that the club will withdraw from the domestic competition, but stressed that the Cairo giants will turn against the FA in case there was no rematch.

“We will not withdraw from the league in order to maintain stability amid the circumstances surrounding the country,” Ibrahim said.

“But in case the FA refused to give us a rematch, we will join the side opposing the association.”

A number of clubs have united this year to overthrow Samir Zaher’s board following the January 25 Revolution.
