The derby between Ahli and Zamalek has been delayed because of security concerns, the Egyptian FA said Wednesday, following clashes in the heart of Cairo.

Violence erupted in Tahrir Square on Tuesday night between protesters and police forces, leaving more than 60 people injured, according to medics.

Mixed stories are being told about what ignited the clashes but the actual reasons are still unclear.

"Several calls took place with the Interior Ministry on Wednesday morning and the decision was made," Egyptian FA chairman Samir Zaher told FilGoal.com.

According to Zaher, the Competitions' Committee will convene on Saturday to decide on a new date for the game.

Five other games are scheduled to be held on Wednesday and should be played on time.

Among these matches, only one will be hosted in Cairo between ENPPI and Degla. Both teams almost have no fan base.

Two matches will be played in Alexandria, one in Ismailia and the fourth in Suez.
