Egypt assistant coach Moatamed Gamal sounded upbeat despite the team’s distressing 2-1 defeat in Sierra Leone in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

An Egyptian team brimming with youngsters were punished by a late penalty in Freetown after giving in a gritty performance against the CAN 2012 hopefuls.

“Experience does not come without playing, and today the players learnt a lot from some difficult situations,” former Zamalek defender Gamal told Modern Sport TV after the game.

“For example, conceding a goal so late in the game is a lesson for the players not to give away possession.

“In general, we are satisfied with performance, especially with some hurdles we faced like the poor condition of the pitch.”
